Search for quark compositeness in dijet angular distributions from pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV
(2012)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search for quark compositeness using dijet angular distributions from pp collisions at s√=7 TeV is presented. The search has been carried out using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.2 fb−1, recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC. Normalized dijet angular distributions have been measured for dijet invariant masses from 0.4 TeV to above 3 TeV and compared with a variety of contact interaction models, including ...Journal Article -
Search for dark matter and large extra dimensions in monojet events in pp collisions at √s= 7 TeV
(2012)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search has been made for events containing an energetic jet and an imbalance in transverse momentum using a data sample of pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. This signature is common to both dark matter and extra dimensions models. The data were collected by the CMS detector at the LHC and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb−1. The number of observed events is consistent with the standard model expectation. ...Journal Article -
Search for B0stoμ+μ− and B0toμ+μ− decays
(2012)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search for the rare decays B0s → μ + μ − and B0 → μ + μ − is performed in pp collisions at s√=7TeV, with a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5 fb−1 collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. In both decays, the number of events observed after all selection requirements is consistent with the expectation from background plus standard model signal predictions. The resulting upper limits on the branching fractions ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the single-top-quark t-channel cross section in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV
(2012)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA measurement of the single-top-quark t-channel production cross section in pp collisions at s√=7 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC is presented. Two different and complementary approaches have been followed. The first approach exploits the distributions of the pseudorapidity of the recoil jet and reconstructed top-quark mass using background estimates determined from control samples in data. The second approach is based on multivariate ...Journal Article -
Search for anomalous t t-bar production in the highly-boosted all-hadronic final state
(2012)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search is presented for a massive particle, generically referred to as a Z′, decaying into a tt¯ pair. The search focuses on Z′ resonances that are sufficiently massive to produce highly Lorentz-boosted top quarks, which yield collimated decay products that are partially or fully merged into single jets. The analysis uses new methods to analyze jet substructure, providing suppression of the non-top multijet backgrounds. The analysis is ...Journal Article -
Search for a Higgs boson in the decay channel H -> ZZ((*)) -> q(q)over-barl(-)l(+) in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV
(2012)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search for the standard model Higgs boson decaying into two Z bosons with subsequent decay into a final state containing two quark jets and two leptons, H → ZZ(*) → qq¯¯¯ ℓ − ℓ + is presented. Results are based on data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at s√=7 TeV, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. In order to discriminate between signal and background events, kinematic and ...Journal Article -
Search for supersymmetry in hadronic final states using MT2 in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV.
(2012)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search for supersymmetry or other new physics resulting in similar final states is presented using a data sample of 4.73 fb−1 of pp collisions collected at s√=7 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. Fully hadronic final states are selected based on the variable M T2, an extension of the transverse mass in events with two invisible particles. Two complementary studies are performed. The first targets the region of parameter space with ...Journal Article -
Search for microscopic black holes in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV
(2012)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search for microscopic black holes in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV is presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb−1 recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2011. Events with large total transverse energy have been analyzed for the presence of multiple energetic jets, leptons, and photons, which are typical signals of evaporating semiclassical and quantum black holes, and string ...Journal Article -
Search for resonant t(t)over-bar production in lepton plus jets events in pp collisions at s √ =7 TeV
(2012)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA model-independent search for the production of heavy resonances decaying into top-antitop quark pairs is presented. The search is based on events containing one lepton (muon or electron) and at least two jets selected from data samples corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.4-5.0 fb−1 collected in pp collisions at s√=7 TeV. Results are presented from the combination of two dedicated searches optimized for boosted production and ...Journal Article -
Search for leptonic decays of W′ bosons in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV
(2012)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search for a new heavy gauge boson W′ decaying to an electron or muon, plus a low mass neutrino, is presented. This study uses data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb−1, collected using the CMS detector in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV at the LHC. Events containing a single electron or muon and missing transverse momentum are analyzed. No significant excess of events above the standard model expectation ...Journal Article
