Search for additional neutral MSSM Higgs bosons in the τ τ final state in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV
(2018)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search is presented for additional neutral Higgs bosons in the τ τ final state in proton-proton collisions at the LHC. The search is performed in the context of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model (MSSM), using the data collected with the CMS detector in 2016 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. To enhance the sensitivity to neutral MSSM Higgs bosons, the ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the production cross section for single top quarks in association with W bosons in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV
(2018)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA measurement is presented of the associated production of a single top quark and a W boson in proton-proton collisions at s√=13 TeV by the CMS Collaboration at the CERN LHC. The data collected corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The measurement is performed using events with one electron and one muon in the final state along with at least one jet originated from a bottom quark. A multivariate discriminant, exploiting ...Journal Article -
Precision measurement of the structure of the CMS inner tracking system using nuclear interactions
(2018)Journal of InstrumentationThe structure of the CMS inner tracking system has been studied using nuclear interactions of hadrons striking its material. Data from proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded in 2015 at the LHC are used to reconstruct millions of secondary vertices from these nuclear interactions. Precise positions of the beam pipe and the inner tracking system elements, such as the pixel detector support tube, and barrel ...Journal Article -
Search for Pair-Produced Resonances Each Decaying into at Least Four Quarks in Proton-Proton Collisions at s =13 TeV
(2018)Physical Review LettersThis Letter presents the results of a search for pair-produced particles of masses above 100 GeV that each decay into at least four quarks. Using data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2015–2016, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 38.2 fb−1, reconstructed particles are clustered into two large jets of similar mass, each consistent with four-parton substructure. No statistically significant excess of data over the ...Journal Article -
Comparing transverse momentum balance of b jet pairs in pp and PbPb collisions at root s(NN)=5.02 TeV
(2018)Journal of High Energy PhysicsThe transverse momentum balance of pairs of back-to-back b quark jets in PbPb and pp collisions recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC is reported. The center-of-mass energy in both collision systems is 5.02 TeV per nucleon pair. Compared to the pp collision baseline, b quark jets have a larger imbalance in the most central PbPb collisions, as expected from the jet quenching effect. The data are also compared to the corresponding ...Journal Article -
Search for natural supersymmetry in events with top quark pairs and photons in pp collisions at root s=8 TeV
(2018)Journal of High Energy PhysicsResults are presented from a search for natural gauge-mediated supersymmetry (SUSY) in a scenario in which the top squark is the lightest squark, the next-to-lightest SUSY particle is a bino-like neutralino, and the lightest SUSY particle is the gravitino. The strong production of top squark pairs can produce events with pairs of top quarks and neutralinos, with each bino-like neutralino decaying to a photon and a gravitino. The search ...Journal Article -
Search for electroweak production of charginos and neutralinos in multilepton final states in proton-proton collisions at root s=13 TeV
(2018)Journal of High Energy PhysicsResults are presented from a search for the direct electroweak production of charginos and neutralinos in signatures with either two or more leptons (electrons or muons) of the same electric charge, or with three or more leptons, which can include up to two hadronically decaying tau leptons. The results are based on a sample of proton-proton collision data collected at s√=13 TeV, recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding ...Journal Article -
Constraints on the double-parton scattering cross section from same-sign W boson pair production in proton-proton collisions at √s=8 TeV
(2018)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA first search for same-sign WW production via double-parton scattering is performed based on proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV using dimuon and electron-muon final states. The search is based on the analysis of data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb−1. No significant excess of events is observed above the expected single-parton scattering yields. A 95% confidence level upper limit of 0.32 ...Journal Article -
Search for supersymmetry in proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV using identified top quarks
(2018)Physical Review DA search for supersymmetry is presented based on proton-proton collision events containing identified hadronically decaying top quarks, no leptons, and an imbalance pmissT in transverse momentum. The data were collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. Search regions are defined in terms of the multiplicity of bottom quark jet and top quark ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the inclusive t t ¯ cross section in pp collisions at √s=5.02 TeV using final states with at least one charged lepton
(2018)Journal of High Energy PhysicsThe top quark pair production cross section (σtt¯) is measured for the first time in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV. The data were collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 27.4 pb−1. The measurement is performed by analyzing events with at least one charged lepton. The measured cross section is σtt¯ = 69.5 ± 6.1 (stat) ± 5.6 (syst) ± 1.6 (lumi) pb, with a total relative ...Journal Article
