Searches for R-parity-violating supersymmetry in pp collisions at √s=8 TeV in final states with 0–4 leptons
(2016)Physical Review DResults are presented from searches for R-parity-violating supersymmetry in events produced in pp collisions at √s=8 TeV at the LHC. Final states with 0, 1, 2, or multiple leptons are considered independently. The analysis is performed on data collected by the CMS experiment corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb−1. No excesses of events above the standard model expectations are observed, and 95% confidence level limits ...Journal Article -
Search for supersymmetry in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV in events with two photons and missing transverse energy
(2011)Physical Review LettersA search for supersymmetry in the context of general gauge-mediated breaking with the lightest neutralino as the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle and the gravitino as the lightest is presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb−1 recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The search is performed by using events containing two or more isolated photons, at least one hadronic jet, and significant missing ...Journal Article -
Performance of CMS muon reconstruction in pp collision events at √s = 7 TeV
(2012)Journal of InstrumentationThe performance of muon reconstruction, identification, and triggering in CMS has been studied using 40 pb−1 of data collected in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV at the LHC in 2010. A few benchmark sets of selection criteria covering a wide range of physics analysis needs have been examined. For all considered selections, the efficiency to reconstruct and identify a muon with a transverse momentum pT larger than a few GeV/c is above 95% over ...Journal Article -

Identification of b-quark jets with the CMS experiment
(2013)Journal of InstrumentationAt the Large Hadron Collider, the identification of jets originating from b quarks is important for searches for new physics and for measurements of standard model processes. A variety of algorithms has been developed by CMS to select b-quark jets based on variables such as the impact parameters of charged-particle tracks, the properties of reconstructed decay vertices, and the presence or absence of a lepton, or combinations thereof. The ...Journal Article -
Constraints on the spin-parity and anomalous HVV couplings of the Higgs boson in proton collisions at 7 and 8 TeV
(2015)Physical Review DThe study of the spin-parity and tensor structure of the interactions of the recently discovered Higgs boson is performed using the H→ZZ,Zγ∗,γ∗γ∗→4ℓ, H→WW→ℓνℓν, and H→γγ decay modes. The full data set recorded by the CMS experiment during the LHC run 1 is used, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of up to 5.1 fb−1 at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV and up to 19.7 fb−1 at 8 TeV. A wide range of spin-two models is excluded at a 99% ...Journal Article -
Search for resonances and quantum black holes using dijet mass spectra in proton-proton collisions at root s=8 TeV
(2015)Physical Review DA search for resonances and quantum black holes is performed using the dijet mass spectra measured in proton-proton collisions at √s=8 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb−1. In a search for narrow resonances that couple to quark-quark, quark-gluon, or gluon-gluon pairs, model-independent upper limits, at 95% confidence level, are obtained on the production cross section ...Journal Article -
Study of final-state radiation in decays of Z bosons produced in pp collisions at 7 TeV
(2015)Physical Review DThe differential cross sections for the production of photons in Z→μ+μ−γ decays are presented as a function of the transverse energy of the photon and its separation from the nearest muon. The data for these measurements are collected with the CMS detector and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb−1 of pp collisions at √s=7 TeV delivered by the CERN LHC. The cross sections are compared to simulations with powheg and pythia, ...Journal Article -
Alignment of the CMS tracker with LHC and cosmic ray data
(2014)Journal of InstrumentationThe central component of the CMS detector is the largest silicon tracker ever built. The precise alignment of this complex device is a formidable challenge, and only achievable with a significant extension of the technologies routinely used for tracking detectors in the past. This article describes the full-scale alignment procedure as it is used during LHC operations. Among the specific features of the method are the simultaneous ...Journal Article -
Performance of Photon Reconstruction and Identification with the CMS Detector in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s = 8 TeV
(2015)Journal of InstrumentationA description is provided of the performance of the CMS detector for photon reconstruction and identification in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV at the CERN LHC. Details are given on the reconstruction of photons from energy deposits in the electromagnetic calorimeter (ECAL) and the extraction of photon energy estimates. The reconstruction of electron tracks from photons that convert to electrons in the CMS ...Journal Article
