Search for new physics in events with same-sign dileptons and b-tagged jets in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV
(2012)Journal of High Energy PhysicsA search for new physics is performed using isolated same-sign dileptons with at least two b-quark jets in the final state. Results are based on a 4.98 fb−1 sample of proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV collected by the CMS detector. No excess above the standard model background is observed. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set on the number of events from non-standard-model sources. These limits are used ...Journal Article -
Search for the Standard Model Higgs Boson in the Decay Channel H→ZZ→4l in pp Collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2012)Physical Review LettersA search for a Higgs boson in the four-lepton decay channel H→ZZ, with each Z boson decaying to an electron or muon pair, is reported. The search covers Higgs boson mass hypotheses in the range of 110<mH<600 GeV. The analysis uses data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb−1 recorded by the CMS detector in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV from the LHC. Seventy-two events are observed with four-lepton invariant mass m4ℓ>100 GeV ...Journal Article -
Searches for new physics using the tt ¯ invariant mass distribution in pp collisions at s √ =8 TeV
(2013)Physical Review LettersSearches for anomalous top quark-antiquark production are presented, based on pp collisions at √s=8 TeV. The data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb−1, were collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The observed t¯t invariant mass spectrum is found to be compatible with the standard model prediction. Limits on the production cross section times branching fraction probe, for the first time, a region of parameter space ...Journal Article -
Search for Top Squarks in R-Parity-Violating Supersymmetry Using Three or More Leptons and b-Tagged Jets
(2013)Physical Review LettersA search for anomalous production of events with three or more isolated leptons and bottom-quark jets produced in pp collisions at √s=8 TeV is presented. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 fb−1 collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2012. No excess above the standard model expectations is observed. The results are interpreted in the context of supersymmetric models with ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the B+ Production Cross Section in pp Collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2011)Physical Review LettersMeasurements of the total and differential cross sections dσ/dpBT and dσ/dyB for B+ mesons produced in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV are presented. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.8 pb−1 collected by the CMS experiment operating at the LHC. The exclusive decay B+→J/ψK+, with J/ψ→μ+μ−, is used to detect B+ mesons and to measure the production cross section as a function of pBT and yB. The total cross section for pBT>5 GeV ...Journal Article -
Upsilon production cross section in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2011)Physical Review DThe Υ(1S), Υ(2S), and Υ(3S) production cross sections in proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV are measured using a data sample collected with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.1±0.3 pb−1. Integrated over the rapidity range |y|<2, we find the product of the Υ(1S) production cross section and branching fraction to dimuons to be σ(pp→Υ(1S)X)⋅B(Υ(1S)→μ+μ−)=7.37±0.13+0.61−0.42±0.81 nb, where the ...Journal Article -
Missing transverse energy performance of the CMS detector
(2011)Journal of InstrumentationDuring 2010 the LHC delivered pp collisions with a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. In this paper, the results of comprehensive studies of missing transverse energy as measured by the CMS detector are presented. The results cover the measurements of the scale and resolution for missing transverse energy, and the effects of multiple pp interactions within the same bunch crossings on the scale and resolution. Anomalous measurements of missing ...Journal Article -
Measurement of associated W + charm production in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV
(2014)Journal of High Energy PhysicsMeasurements are presented of the associated production of a W boson and a charm-quark jet (W + c) in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. The analysis is conducted with a data sample corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 5 fb−1, collected by the CMS detector at the LHC. W boson candidates are identified by their decay into a charged lepton (muon or electron) and a neutrino. The W + c measurements are performed ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the Z/γ* + b-jet cross section in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2012)Journal of High Energy PhysicsThe production of b jets in association with a Z/γ* boson is studied using proton-proton collisions delivered by the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV and recorded by the CMS detector. The inclusive cross section for Z/γ* + b-jet production is measured in a sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.2 fb−1. The Z/γ* + b-jet cross section with Z/γ* → ℓℓ (where ℓℓ = ee or μμ) for events with the invariant mass 60 < M ℓℓ ...Journal Article -
Search for pair production of first- and second-generation scalar leptoquarks in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2012)Physical Review DResults are presented from a search for the pair production of first- and second-generation scalar leptoquarks in proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb−1, collected by the CMS detector at the LHC. The search signatures involve either two charged leptons of the same flavor (electrons or muons) and at least two jets or a single charged lepton (electron or muon), missing ...Journal Article
