Modification of jet shapes in PbPb collisions at sNN=2.76TeV
(2014)Physics Letters BThe first measurement of jet shapes, defined as the fractional transverse momentum radial distribution, for inclusive jets produced in heavy-ion collisions is presented. Data samples of PbPb and pp collisions, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 150 mu b(-1) and 5.3 pb(-1) respectively, were collected at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. The jets are reconstructed ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the Lambda(b) cross section and the anti-Lambda(b) to Lambda(b) ratio with Lambda(b) to J/Psi Lambda decays in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV
(2012)Physics Letters BThe Λ b differential production cross section and the cross section ratio σ(Λ-b)/σ(Λb) are measured as functions of transverse momentum pTΛb and rapidity |y Λb| in pp collisions at s=7 TeV using data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. The measurements are based on Λ b decays reconstructed in the exclusive final state J/ψΛ, with the subsequent decays J/ψ→μ +μ - and Λ→pπ, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity ...Journal Article -
Measurement of the Υ (1S), Υ (2S), and Υ (3S) cross sections in pp collisions at √s=7TeV
(2013)Physics Letters BThe Υ(1S), Υ(2S), and Υ(3S) production cross sections are measured using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.8±1.4pb-1 of proton-proton collisions at s=7TeV, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The Υ resonances are identified through their decays to dimuons. Integrated over the Υ transverse momentum range pTΥ<50GeV/c and rapidity range |yΥ|<2.4, and assuming unpolarized Υ production, the products of the ...Journal Article -
Search for a Higgs boson decaying into a Z and a photon in pp collisions at √s=7 and 8TeV
(2013)Physics Letters BA search for a Higgs boson decaying into a Z boson and a photon is described. The analysis is performed using proton-proton collision datasets recorded by the CMS detector at the LHC. Events were collected at center-of-mass energies of 7 TeV and 8 TeV, corresponding to integrated luminosities of 5.0fb-1 and 19.6fb-1, respectively. The selected events are required to have opposite-sign electron or muon pairs. No excess above standard model ...Journal Article -
Event shapes and azimuthal correlations in Z plus jets events in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV
(2013)Physics Letters BMeasurements of event shapes and azimuthal correlations are presented for events where a Z boson is produced in association with jets in proton-proton collisions. The data collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC at root s = 7 TeV correspond to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb(-1). The analysis provides a test of predictions from perturbative QCD for a process that represents a substantial background to many physics channels. ...Journal Article -
Search for heavy lepton partners of neutrinos in proton–proton collisions in the context of the type III seesaw mechanism
(2012)Physics Letters BA search is presented in proton-proton collisions at s=7TeV for fermionic triplet states expected in type III seesaw models. The search is performed using final states with three isolated charged leptons and an imbalance in transverse momentum. The data, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC, correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.9fb -1. No excess of events is observed above the background predicted by the standard model, and ...Journal Article -
First measurement of the cross section for top-quark pair production in proton-proton collisions at √s=7 TeV
(2011)Physics Letters BThe first measurement of the cross section for top-quark pair production in pp collisions at the Large Hadron Collider at center-of-mass energy s=7 TeV has been performed using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.1±0.3 pb-1 recorded by the CMS detector. This result utilizes the final state with two isolated, highly energetic charged leptons, large missing transverse energy, and two or more jets. Backgrounds from ...Journal Article -
Search for heavy long-lived charged particles in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV
(2012)Physics Letters BThe result of a search for heavy long-lived charged particles produced in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV at the LHC is described. The data sample has been collected using the CMS detector and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb-1. The inner tracking detectors are used to define a sample of events containing tracks with high momentum and high ionization energy loss. A second sample of events, which have high-momentum tracks ...Journal Article -
Study of the Dijet Mass Spectrum in pp→W+jets Events at √s=7 TeV
(2012)Physical Review LettersWe report an investigation of the invariant mass spectrum of the two jets with highest transverse momentum in pp→W+2-jet and W+3-jet events to look for resonant enhancement. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb−1 collected with the CMS detector at √s=7 TeV. We find no evidence for the anomalous structure reported by the CDF Collaboration, and establish an upper limit of 5.0 pb at 95% confidence level on the ...Journal Article -
Observation of long-range, near-side angular correlations in pPb collisions at the LHC
(2013)Physics Letters BResults on two-particle angular correlations for charged particles emitted in pPb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV are presented. The analysis uses two million collisions collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The correlations are studied over a broad range of pseudorapidity, η, and full azimuth, φ, as a function of charged particle multiplicity and particle transverse momentum, pT. In high-multiplicity ...Journal Article
