FM to AM Transition of RF Driven THz QCL fundamental and Harmonic Comb States
(2022)2022 47th International Conference on Infrared, Millimeter and Terahertz Waves (IRMMW-THz)We measure temporal intensity profile by means of Shifted Wave Interference Fourier Transform Spectroscopy of strong RF injected heterogeneous THz QCLs showing a strong AM emission with pulses as short as 6 ps. Additionally, we measure with SWIFTS fundamental as well as harmonic comb states under RF injection which exhibit clear FM emission and its transition to AM as a function of the RF power.Other Conference Item -
Rotational Fourier-Transform Mid-IR spectroscopy with a Quantum Cas- cade Laser frequency comb
(2023)2023 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe & European Quantum Electronics Conference (CLEO/Europe-EQEC)Real-time spectroscopy with simultaneous high speed, high spectral resolution, and broad bandwidth is of vital importance for studying non-repetitive reactions and process monitoring [1]. The general purpose instrument for infrared spectroscopy has been Fourier-Transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, due to its flexibility brought by extremely broad-band globar sources. While state-of-the-art rapid-scan FTIR can reach time resolutions of ...Other Conference Item -
THz optical solitons in planarized quantum cascade double ring lasers
(2023)2023 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe & European Quantum Electronics Conference (CLEO/Europe-EQEC)Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCL) based on cicular cavities are rapidly progressing as possible sources pf optical solitons [1], [2]. We report soliton formation in dispersion compensated THz ring QCLs [1]. The laser cavity consists of two concentric double metal ring waveguides, designed to support a symmetric and anti-symmetric super-mode where the global GVD is respectively enhanced or decreased [3](Fig. 1 a-b). The two super-modes feature ...Other Conference Item -
High-performance Frequency Combs with Planarized THz Quantum Cascade Lasers
(2023)2023 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe & European Quantum Electronics Conference (CLEO/Europe-EQEC)Terahertz (THz) quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) are compact sources of coherent THz radiation which can also operate as frequency combs [1], making them appealing for spectroscopy and sensing. We recently developed a new planarized THz QCL platform, where the active region waveguides are surrounded by a low-loss polymer (BCB). This enables fabricating an extended top metallization and placing bonding wires over the passive area on the sides ...Other Conference Item -
Asynchronous upconversion sampling of frequency modulated combs
(2023)Technical Digest Series ~ Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics 2023We demonstrate an asynchronous optical sampling technique for the temporal characterization of frequency modulated combs. On the basis of a mid-infrared quantum cascade laser frequency comb, we measure both its instantaneous intensity and optical frequency.Other Conference Item -
THz optical solitons in planarized quantum cascade double ring lasers
(2023)Technical Digest Series ~ Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics 2023We report THz optical soliton formation in defect-less ring QCL featuring anomalous dispersion. Free-running spectra with sech2 envelopes are presented together with SWIFT measurement showing ∼12 ps pulses in the reconstructed emission time-profile.Other Conference Item
