Abstract
This chapter provides an overview on the potential of neutron imaging for the investigation of wood and wood based materials. Wood is a hygroscopic material and most of its properties are related to small changes in the wood moisture content. The chapter shows exemplarily how the high sensitivity of neutrons for hydrogen and hence moisture content can be used to quantify and localise smallest changes of the wood moisture content, hence allowing a better understanding of wood as an engineering and building material.
