Heartbeat-evoked potentials following voluntary hyperventilation in epilepsy patients: respiratory influences on cardiac interoception
(2024)Frontiers in NeuroscienceIntroduction: Current evidence indicates a modulating role of respiratory processes in cardiac interoception, yet whether altered breathing patterns influence heartbeat-evoked potentials (HEP) remains inconclusive. Methods: Here, we examined the effects of voluntary hyperventilation (VH) as part of a clinical routine examination on scalp-recorded HEPs in epilepsy patients (N = 80). Results: Using cluster-based permutation analyses, HEP ...Journal Article -
Structural assessment of translucent walls built with a novel type of insulating aerogel-filled glass bricks
(2024)Glass Structures & EngineeringAmong a multitude of functions, the façade is responsible for providing sufficient thermal insulation and supplying the building interior with enough natural light. For the latter, transparent glazed areas are essential. However, compromises in terms of the glass-to-wall ratio are often necessary since large glazed areas lead to overheating in summer and heat loss in winter. A novel type of highly insulating translucent glass brick made ...Journal Article -
The Alps' iconic glaciers are melting, but there's still time to save the biggest
(2024)Bulletin of the Atomic ScientistsGlaciers are the ambassadors of climate change. Their worldwide decline has serious impacts on natural hazards, the water cycle, and sea level rise. The monitoring of glaciers documents the increasingly rapid melting, which has culminated in a suite of extreme years-for example, 2023 in North America and the European Alps. Numerical simulations of future glacier change, supported by a large basis of observational data, allow us to understand ...Journal Article -
A Safer Vision-based Autonomous Planning System for Quadrotor UAVs with Dynamic Obstacle Trajectory Prediction and Its Application with LLMs
(2024)2024 IEEE/CVF Winter Conference on Applications of Computer Vision Workshops (WACVW)For intelligent quadcopter UAVs, a robust and reliable autonomous planning system is crucial. Most current trajectory planning methods for UAVs are suitable for static environments but struggle to handle dynamic obstacles, which can pose challenges and even dangers to flight. To address this issue, this paper proposes a vision-based planning system that combines tracking and trajectory prediction of dynamic obstacles to achieve efficient ...Conference Paper -
KABR: In-Situ Dataset for Kenyan Animal Behavior Recognition from Drone Videos
(2024)2024 IEEE/CVF Winter Conference on Applications of Computer Vision Workshops (WACVW)We present a novel dataset for animal behavior recognition collected in-situ using video from drones flown over the Mpala Research Centre in Kenya. Videos from DJI Mavic 2S drones flown in January 2023 were acquired at 5.4K resolution in accordance with IACUC protocols, and processed to detect and track each animal in the frames. An image subregion centered on each animal was extracted and combined in sequence to form a "mini-scene". ...Conference Paper
