Abstract
This report documents the work package “Disaggregation of the seismic hazard” within the project “Database of design-compatible waveforms”, commissioned by the Federal Office of Environment (SFOE – BAFU). The work package “Disaggregation of the seismic hazard” is related to Milestone 1 “Magnitude-distance scenarios disaggregation for each seismic zone in Switzerland”; we determined the magnitude-distance scenarios most relevant for the five seismic zones (1a – 3b) defined in SIA 261 (2020) normative. For this purpose, we disaggregated the seismic hazard at the return period of 975 years at over 700 geographic locations (hereinafter referred to as “nodes”) covering the Swiss territory with a regularly-spaced grid. The disaggregation analysis was performed for three intensity measure types: PGA, SA(0.15s) and SA(1.0s). In a second step, the disaggregation results obtained at the grid nodes are cross-referenced with the boundaries of the five seismic zones envisaged by SIA 261 (2020), and for each zone a summary representation of the disaggregation is derived. The disaggregation data from the three selected intensity measure types (PGA, SA(0.15s) and SA(1.0s)) are also stacked – at the level of each disaggregation node as well as of each SIA zone– to assess the contribution to exceedance of the full UHS of various magnitude – distance scenarios. Basing on the summary magnitude – distance contribution matrices obtained at every SIA 261 zone, we define the overall most relevant scenarios for the hazard in each one of them. For completeness, the same disaggregation procedure and post-processing steps are also applied to the seismic hazard at the return period of 475 years; the obtained results are displayed in appendix A at the end of the report. The numerical results of the disaggregation analysis at both return periods of 475 and 975 years are contained in an electronic supplement attached to this report; the description of the data format of the dataset is illustrated in appendix B.
