  2. Directional deep brain stimulation of the centromedian thalamic nucleus reduces DBS-induced ataxia and dysarthria in Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome: A single case study

    Neidhart S.; Kohnen O.; Stieglitz L.; et al. (2024)
    Clinical Neurophysiology Practice
Background: We present a case of a 46-year-old man with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and drug-resistant epilepsy. An adjunctive neurostimulation therapy strategy was implemented involving bilateral deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the centromedian thalamic nucleus (CMT). Methods: Robotically assisted implantation of bilateral DBS directional lead system with 8 contacts in the CMT was performed. The clinical course was assessed in repeated ...

  3. Reducing the uncertainty in estimating soil microbial-derived carbon storage

    Hu H.; Qian C.; Xue K.; et al. (2024)
Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America
Soil organic carbon (SOC) is the largest carbon pool in terrestrial ecosystems and plays a crucial role in mitigating climate change and enhancing soil productivity. Microbial-derived carbon (MDC) is the main component of the persistent SOC pool. However, current formulas used to estimate the proportional contribution of MDC are plagued by uncertainties due to limited sample sizes and the neglect of bacterial group composition effects. ...

  4. Evaluation of Load on Cervical Disc Prosthesis by Imposing Complex Motion: Multiplanar Motion and Combined Rotational–Translational Motion

    Ansaripour H.; Ferguson S.J.; Flohr M. (2024)
    Bioengineering
    (1) Background: The kinematic characteristics of disc prosthesis undergoing complex motion are not well understood. Therefore, examining complex motion may provide an improved understanding of the post-operative behavior of spinal implants. (2) Methods: The aim of this study was to develop kinematic tests that simulate multiplanar motion and combined rotational–translational motion in a disc prosthesis. In this context, five generic ...

  5. Search for long-lived particles decaying in the CMS muon detectors in proton-proton collisions at Formula Presented

    Hayrapetyan A.; Tumasyan A.; Adam W.; et al. (2024)
    Physical Review D
A search for long-lived particles (LLPs) decaying in the CMS muon detectors is presented. A data sample of proton-proton collisions at Formula Presented corresponding to an integrated luminosity of Formula Presented, recorded at the LHC in 2016-2018, is used. The decays of LLPs are reconstructed as high multiplicity clusters of hits in the muon detectors. In the context of twin Higgs models, the search is sensitive to LLP masses from 0.4 ...
